Actitudes, Autoeficacia Vocacional y Expectativas de Empleabilidad como Predictores de la Intención de Elegir Gastronomía como Carrera Universitaria en Estudiantes de Bachillerato de Ibarra, Ecuador

Resumen

La elección de una carrera universitaria representa una de las decisiones más importantes en la vida de los jóvenes, y la Gastronomía se ve afectada por varios vacíos informáticos frente a los estudiantes de bachillerato. El siguiente estudio investiga si las actitudes hacia la Gastronomía, la idea de la autoeficacia vocacional y la perspectiva de empleabilidad influyen en la intención de elegirla como carrera universitaria, tomando como muestra a 125 estudiantes de segundo y tercero de bachillerato de la Unidad Educativa Ibarra. En la encuesta se aplicaron 30 ítems, con tres dimensiones predictoras medidas en escala Likert de cinco puntos (actitudes, autoeficacia vocacional, expectativas de empleabilidad, ocho ítems cada una) y una dimensión de intención de elección medida en escala ordinal de tres niveles (No / Tal vez / Sí, tres ítems). El análisis de correlación de Spearman revelo que las actitudes hacia la Gastronomía son, con una diferencia marcada, el predictor más sólido de la intención de elegirla (ρ = .630, p < .001), seguidas de las expectativas de empleabilidad (ρ = .359, p < .001); a diferencia, la autoeficacia vocacional general no mostro una forma significativa con dicha intención (ρ = .137, p = .128). Los estudiantes que manifestaron su intención de elegir Gastronomía en este momento presentaron actitudes y expectativas de empleabilidad considerablemente más altas que quienes no la elegirían (p < .01), no se hallaron diferencias en autoeficacia vocacional. La orientación vocacional se asoció con un aumento significativo de autoeficacia (p < .01), pero no con actitudes, expectativas ni intención hacia la Gastronomía específicamente. De esta manera se concluye que la elección por la carrera de Gastronomía depende principalmente de la valoración afectiva y de imagen que presenta la carrera, y con menor relevancia, las expectativas económico-laborales, mientras que la confianza vocacional de los estudiantes no distingue entre quienes se inclinan o no por dicha opción específica, lo que implica consecuencias directas para el diseño de estrategias de orientación vocacional y difusión de la oferta académica en Gastronomía.
